Trevor Hold was a British academic and prolific, yet unjustly neglected, composer whose friendship with Peter Jacobs resulted in many commissions. He excelled in the genre of the piano miniature, taking nursery rhymes, folksongs or the works of other composers as his inspiration and adapting them into highly distinctive compositions, often influenced by blues and other popular idioms. The first of these discs was originally recorded for Continuum in the late 1980s. In 2020, Peter Jacobs returned to the studio to record four additional suites which exist in manuscript form only. The result is a comprehensive 2 CD survey which it is hoped will bring Hold’s music to the attention of an entirely new audience.

‘Sit back and enjoy the fine craftsmanship and eminent listenability of Trevor Hold’s music.’ Gramophone

‘Given Jacobs’ long association with Hold and his music these performances must be considered authoritative, and in addition no one could better Jacobs’ understanding of the composer’s mixture of humour and technical facility.’ William Kreindler, MusicWeb International
